What we collect, why, and what we do not do with it.

The short version
We collect as little as we can get away with. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
What we collect
Analytics
We record aggregate traffic data so we know which stories are read and roughly where readers are. This is reported in aggregate and is not used to build a profile of you.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address and the date you subscribed, and we use them to send you the newsletter. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address.
Email you send us
Messages to the newsroom are kept so we can respond and keep a record of corrections.
What we do not do
- Sell or rent personal information
- Share subscriber lists with advertisers
- Use third-party advertising trackers to follow readers across other sites
Cookies
We use only what the site needs to function and to count visits in aggregate. We do not set advertising cookies.
Your choices
Write to [email protected] to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We will action it within thirty days.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will note the date at the top of this page and describe what changed.
