Ferran Torres Leaves Barcelona for PSG in $58 Million Deal

Ferran Torres has left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, the French and European champions announced Saturday, days after the Spain forward scored the winning goal in last month's World Cup final against Argentina.

The 26-year-old has signed through 2031 for a reported fee of 50 million euros ($58 million), according to Yahoo Sports and Al Jazeera. The Guardian put the deal's value at roughly £43 million and reported it as a five-year contract with Torres wearing the number nine shirt.

"Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres," the club said in a statement announcing the signing.

Torres, nicknamed "The Shark" according to Al Jazeera, thanked PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, football advisor Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique in his own statement. "I'm delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris Saint-Germain," he said. "I hope to help win as many trophies as possible."

The move reunites Torres with Luis Enrique, who gave him his international debut in a 2020 Nations League match against Germany while coaching the Spanish national team. Speaking to reporters Saturday, Luis Enrique said the club needed to keep improving despite a summer that saw forward Goncalo Ramos depart for AC Milan. "It has been a transfer window with players leaving, and right now it is important to find this type of player," he said, according to Channel NewsAsia. "We are always open to improving the team. That is our ambition."

A Standout Season in Barcelona

Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 and scored 65 goals in 207 appearances over four and a half seasons, including in the club's 2025 Copa del Rey final win over Real Madrid. Last season he scored 21 goals with three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions as Barcelona retained its La Liga title, according to Al Jazeera and Channel NewsAsia.

Barcelona thanked Torres in its own statement, saying the club "would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons" and wished him well.

He came off the bench in the World Cup final against Argentina and scored in extra time, sealing Spain's second men's World Cup title. He has now scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for the national team.

Torres' arrival could ease the path for Liverpool to sign PSG winger Bradley Barcola, who impressed for France at the World Cup, according to Yahoo Sports and Al Jazeera. The two clubs have been negotiating for weeks, with PSG's asking price of about 150 million euros ($173 million) so far blocking a deal. PSG beat Aston Villa 2-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, according to BBC Sport.
