Google Quietly Raises Google TV Streamer Price 50 Percent to $150

Google has raised the price of its Google TV Streamer by 50 percent, from $100 to $150, according to Engadget and The Verge. The higher price is now showing up on the Google Store and at Best Buy. Amazon was still listing the device at its original price as of this week, though both outlets said that was likely to change soon.

Google did not announce the increase and has not explained why it raised the price, according to Engadget. The Verge put the new price at $149, up from $99 at launch.

The Google TV Streamer came out in 2024 as a replacement for Google's Chromecast, and it already cost twice as much as the old 4K Chromecast when it launched, according to Engadget. The device doubles as a smart home hub, The Verge reported, and supports 4K video at 60 frames per second, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and spatial audio for Pixel Buds Pro headphones. It comes with 32GB of storage and 4GB of memory. Engadget named it the best all-in-one streaming device of 2026, citing its speed compared with older Chromecast models.

Part of a wider pattern

The price increase follows similar moves across the consumer electronics industry. Google raised the price of its new Pixel 11 phones by $100 over the previous Pixel 10 lineup just weeks earlier, according to The Verge. Amazon increased the price of its Fire TV Stick 4K Max by more than 40 percent to $84.99 this month, the outlet reported. Apple's price increases in June also pushed the cost of the Apple TV 4K up, to $199 for the 64GB model and $249 for the 128GB version.

Neither outlet could confirm what is driving the increases industrywide. Engadget said rising memory chip prices could be a factor, noting that companies building artificial intelligence systems have been buying up much of the world's available RAM supply, leaving less for makers of phones, streaming boxes and other devices. Google has not confirmed that explanation for its own price change.

For now, shoppers looking to buy the Google TV Streamer at the old price may still find it on Amazon, though that window appears to be closing.
