Google Unveils $129 Pokémon Sleep Edition of Its Fitbit Air Tracker

Google announced a special-edition Fitbit Air on Thursday that links directly to the Pokémon Sleep app, giving wearers a way to turn a night's rest into progress in the mobile game. The device is available for preorder now at $129 and starts shipping September 15, Google said in the announcement. It will be sold through the Google Store and at Target, according to the company.

The launch lands during Pokémon's 30th anniversary year, TechCrunch reported. Pokémon Sleep debuted in 2023 and rewards players for going to bed on time and sleeping well. Players start with a resting Snorlax, and better sleep builds up what the game calls "Drowsy Power," which draws more Pokémon characters to discover, according to TechCrunch's description of the game.

A Pikachu On Your Wrist

The special-edition band comes in what Google calls a "Sleepy Blue" colorway, printed with an image of a sleeping Pikachu, The Verge reported. Google said in its announcement that the tracker is designed to feel light and unnoticeable overnight, with an adjustable fit. Buyers of the special edition also get a three-month trial of Google Health Premium, according to Google.

Once paired, the Fitbit Air records sleep duration and stages overnight and tracks movement, heart rate, and cardio load during the day, TechCrunch reported. That data flows into the Google Health app and syncs each morning to Pokémon Sleep, so a good night's rest can unlock new Pokémon and rarer "sleep styles" in the game, Google said.

The Fitbit Air itself is not new. Google introduced the device in May with a slimmer design and an AI-powered coach that gives users tips based on their activity and sleep data, according to TechCrunch. The standard version costs $99. Pokémon Sleep already works with a range of other wearables, including the Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, and Google's own Pixel Watch, and the app can also be used without any wearable at all, both TechCrunch and The Verge reported.

Not Google's First Themed Watch

This is the second special-edition Fitbit Air Google has released. Earlier this year, the company teamed up with basketball player Stephen Curry on a $579 Pixel Watch built for workouts, TechCrunch reported. The Verge noted that a special-edition set of Pokémon trading cards is also set to launch the same week as the Fitbit Air Pokémon Sleep edition.
